What Insulation and Specialty Contractors Will Learn at ICAA 2026
From AI-assisted estimating to worker classification and construction contracts, the Insulation Contractors Association of America’s 2026 convention will tackle several challenges that extend well beyond the insulation trade.
ICAA Executive Director Michael Kwart said the Sept. 16-19 event in Dallas will feature the association’s largest trade show to date, with 129 booths and growing, alongside education focused on improving contractors’ operations and reducing risk.
ICAA 2026 Preview
Listen as ICAA Executive Director Michael Kwart discusses the technology, safety and business issues shaping this year’s convention, from AI estimating tools to spray polyurethane foam compliance and contractor risk.
For roofing contractors, one of the most relevant sessions will examine AI-powered takeoff and estimating tools. ICAA has spent months evaluating available programs and plans to help attendees understand what the technology can realistically do—and whether the investment makes financial sense for their companies.
The convention will also address 1099 subcontractor classification, including the federal rules governing supervision, equipment, materials and other factors that can determine whether workers are legitimate subcontractors or should be classified as employees. Kwart noted that specialty contractors have faced costly enforcement actions over misclassification, making compliance an important risk-management issue across construction.
Other sessions will focus on contract language, payment clauses and negotiation, as well as the financial metrics contractors should monitor to keep their businesses healthy.
While ICAA 2026 is geared toward insulation professionals, many of its biggest themes—estimating technology, labor compliance, contracts, safety and financial management—are familiar territory for roofing contractors navigating the same pressures across the construction industry.
