El calor récord sigue afectando a los contratistas de techos en mercados de todo el país este verano. Sin embargo, la mejor manera de mantener un programa de producción limitado al 50-60 por ciento durante una ola de calor prolongada implica que la gerencia programe un rígido programa de trabajo de A-D-S-R:

  • Agua: Comience a hidratarse con agua fría temprano y con frecuencia. Una vez que la deshidratación presenta síntomas, a menudo es demasiado tarde para recuperarse en temperaturas severas sin detener el trabajo por completo.

  • Descanso: Si bien un motor de combustión interna tiene un rango de temperatura de funcionamiento normal, no sería recomendable hacerlo funcionar a la "línea roja" superior durante períodos prolongados. Claro, no obtendrá la tasa de producción de un día de trabajo fresco, pero nadie terminará en la sala de emergencias o algo peor.

  • Sombra: Si bien los diferenciales de temperatura del aire durante una ola de calor entre el sol y la sombra pueden parecer intrascendentes, simplemente sacar a los trabajadores de la radiación solar directa y llevarlos a la sombra durante 15 minutos reducirá significativamente la temperatura central del cuerpo. ¿No hay sombra natural? Instale refugios temporales con agua y ventiladores nebulizadores.

  • Repetir: Repita este ciclo durante todo su turno de trabajo cuando las temperaturas en el lugar de trabajo alcancen los 90 °F (32 °C) y aumente los tres a medida que las temperaturas suban a media tarde. Cuando la producción continua es obligatoria (por ejemplo, un vertido de concreto continuo o techado de alquitrán caliente), algunos contratistas usan el sistema de compañeros: uno trabaja durante 45 minutos mientras su "apoyo" se recupera, luego se cambian. Prepárese para lo peor y espere lo mejor. Claro, la mano de obra aumenta y la producción disminuye de forma natural, como lo haría en una tormenta de nieve de tres días, pero no se detendrá por completo y su fuerza laboral se mantendrá saludable y disponible para trabajar al día siguiente.
