State of the Roofing Industry: Key Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities for Contractors

Roofing contractors from around the country identify the opportunities and challenges ahead in 2025.

The roofing industry endured extreme weather, tough economic conditions and sweeping political change last year, which will undoubtedly impact how 2025 gets underway. Yet with demand holding strong, prices stabilizing, and new products promising efficiency, roofing contractors, in general, are finding reasons to feel good about the state of the industry.

According to the data from RC’s annual nationwide survey of residential and commercial roofing contractors, there are several reasons for this optimism— ranging from product availability and emerging technology to new service offerings and enhanced training.

To try and gauge it all, RC turned to the experts at myCLEARopinion Insights Hub — the survey and research arm of RC’s parent company, BNP Media — to canvass roofing contractors from around the country. Taken digitally in the fall, respondents shared insights about the year they had and expectations for the near future through a series of questions designed to capture perspectives of commercial and residential roofers about 2024, and what trends will be driving the industry in the years ahead.

By evaluating the state of the industry through the data, roofers can gain perspectives on sales trends, product development, workforce issues, innovations and more that will help them find success.

As we did for the first time last year, RC again explored homeowners' expectations surrounding the roof repair or purchasing journey, which will be part of a future RC report (see the Homeowner sidebar). Full disclosure, each contractor respondent received a $15 gift card for their participation.
