Ken Kelly’s Back in Business
Two years ago, Ken Kelly joined Roofing Contractor on the show floor from the Western Roofing Expo to discuss his well-earned retirement from roofing after growing Kelly Roofing as one of Florida’s premier contractors over nearly three decades. Now he’s back in roofing after rescuing his company from failure under the private equity sale he agreed to. He’s talking about the experience, this time live from the WRE show floor again.
Kelly, who spent the better part of the past two years consulting roofing companies and speaking at events nationwide, also presented an educational session at the show about how to prepare your business for a sale.
“The KPI that I give out to listeners is you want to be upward of 20% of EBITDA or operational profitability,” he explained. “If you’re around 10% that’s about industry average. Anything below 5%, well, you might as well hang it up and go work for someone else.”
Getting to the level you want to be at starts with budgeting properly for roofing’s seasonality. Watch the full conversation now.
