Marcos Sierra: One Connection Can Change Your Company
The Sierra Group co-owner explains how Techos y Más gives roofing contractors practical ideas, valuable access and a year-end advantage.
A conference can fill a notebook without changing a business. For Marcos Sierra, the real test is whether a contractor leaves with one idea that can be used immediately and one relationship that can open the next door.
Sierra, co-owner of Sierra Group Roofing, will speak at Techos y Más on Dec. 7 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Fla. The Spanish-language educational event precedes Roofing Contractor’s Best of Success Conference and brings together contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and other roofing professionals for a day focused on business growth.
In a recent "Best of Success Podcast Show" interview, Sierra said the event’s value comes down to the people in the room, the practical program and the timing near year-end.
1. The Value of Being in the Right Room
Sierra has attended Roofing Contractor events before, and he said they consistently draw contractors from across the country who are serious about improving how they operate.
That geographic reach exposes attendees to companies working in different markets, climates and regulatory environments and to owners who may have already solved the hiring, insurance or growth challenge another contractor is facing.
“It creates a synergy of contractors that all want to do business the best way possible and are recognized for being the best in their area and region,” Sierra said.
The most useful conversations do not always happen from the stage. They may begin over breakfast, during lunch or with the person in the next chair.
“You never know who you’re going to sit with,” he said. A single person, connection or partnership, Sierra said, can change the direction of an entire company.
2. Ideas Contractors Can Use at Home
Networking alone, however, is not enough. Sierra said the program stands out because the subjects are designed to be implemented, audited against current processes and brought home with a clear reason to act.
“The subjects are matters that we can implement, that we can audit in our current process and system, and then go back home and put to use,” he said.
Sometimes, that action starts before a session ends. While taking notes, Sierra may send a Slack message to his leadership team asking for an audit, checking when the company last reviewed an insurance issue or flagging a change the business needs to address.
3. A Year-End Check Before Jan. 1
The December timing adds urgency. Sierra described the conference as a “last line of defense before January 1st,” a final opportunity to examine the business before a new calendar year begins.
For roofing contractors, year-end planning can include insurance, budgets, staffing, sales goals, production capacity and operating systems. Learning from other owners at that moment can help a company catch a weakness before it becomes part of next year’s plan or spot an opportunity early enough to act on it.
The goal is not to return with a long list of changes that no one owns. It is to choose the ideas that fit the company, assign responsibility and connect everyday work to larger goals.
Sierra’s Topic: Execution Over Everything
That approach will also shape Sierra’s Techos y Más presentation. His focus will be operations, including how roofing companies onboard employees, train them properly and give them the support needed to complete their responsibilities.
“I’m a big believer in execution over everything,” Sierra said.
He wants contractors to ask whether each employee’s daily deliverables connect to the company’s weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual goals. When those links are clear, individual responsibilities become part of a system that moves the business forward.
Sierra’s message is practical: the right event should help a contractor improve the company before returning home. Techos y Más offers that opportunity through instruction in Spanish, access to roofing leaders and conversations that can continue long after the sessions end.
Techos y Más will be held Dec. 7, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Fla.
