Techadores de Florida unen fuerzas para proteger el Castillo de los Milagros

BRAVA y Florida Specialty Roofing se unieron para reemplazar uno de los techos en Give Kids The World, un parque comunitario para niños.

El Castillo de los Milagros, uno de los edificios más reconocidos del parque Give Kids The World Village, tiene un nuevo techo gracias a varias empresas de la industria del roofing.

BRAVA Roof Tile donó las tejas y Florida Specialty Roofing se encargó de la instalación. Drexel suministró el metal y los tapajuntas, mientras que FLS Roofing Supply aportó la capa base y otros accesorios. 

Give Kids The World Village es un complejo temático independiente y sin fines de lucro en Kissimmee, Florida. La organización ofrece vacaciones gratuitas a niños con enfermedades graves y a sus familias. 

Desde 1989, el Village ha colaborado con más de 200 organizaciones de distintos países dedicadas a cumplir deseos.

El Castillo de los Milagros alberga cerca de 200,000 estrellas doradas. Cada niño que visita el Village personaliza una estrella, que después se coloca de forma permanente en el techo interior del castillo o en las estructuras cercanas Star Tower y Star Observatory. 

Un proyecto con retos poco comunes 

El techo anterior del Castillo de los Milagros estaba hecho con tejas sintéticas que imitaban las tablillas de cedro, conocidas como cedar shake. Aunque se había elegido para resistir el clima de Florida, el material no ofreció la protección esperada contra los rayos ultravioleta. Algunas piezas también se desprendían y terminaban en las áreas verdes, de acuerdo con el estudio del proyecto enviado a Roofing Contractor. 

Reemplazarlo no fue sencillo. El castillo tiene pendientes pronunciadas, áreas de difícil acceso y secciones con formas cónicas y esféricas. El techo también se une con una enorme estructura en forma de hongo que cubre un carrusel. El equipo debía impermeabilizar y colocar tapajuntas alrededor de todas esas formas.

El trabajo tenía que realizarse sin interrumpir las actividades diarias del Village. Además, el nuevo techo debía conservar los colores, los distintos anchos y la textura rústica que le daban al castillo su apariencia. 

“BRAVA era el fabricante y el producto ideal para esta aplicación. Sus tejas sintéticas tipo shake tienen una apariencia tan realista que pudimos lograr un diseño con distintos anchos e igualar el color que Give Kids The World necesitaba, dijo Ryan Kruse, copropietario de Florida Specialy Roofing. 

Un reemplazo que conservó el encanto

Florida Specialty Roofing instaló las tejas en un patrón escalonado para recrear la apariencia intencionalmente irregular de un techo tradicional de cedro mientras cumplía con los requisitos de código aplicables.

Florida Specialty Roofing planificó la instalación considerando a los invitados, voluntarios y empleados que se movían por el área durante todo el día.

El proyecto utilizó BRAVA Cedar Shake Compuesto en Aspen, incluyendo tejas de campo, tejas sólidas, piezas iniciales y componentes para caderas y cumbreras.

“BRAVA en realidad se ajustaba más al aspecto que teníamos actualmente en el castillo, que es muy caprichoso, con la durabilidad que necesitábamos”, dijo Michael Bausman, director de recursos de instalaciones de Give Kids The World. “Como digo, al final de nuestra declaración de misión, que yo ayudé a escribir hace muchos, muchos años, hay una línea que dice: ‘mientras haya necesidad.’ BRAVA fue en realidad el producto que encajaba y nos permite seguir haciendo eso para poder atender a estas familias mientras haya necesidad. Y veo esto como un proyecto de 40, 50 años para nosotros allí arriba.”
