Shake-Up Near the Top

For years, roofing contractors and other industry stakeholders inspecting the Top 100 list could count on at least one norm – the companies at the very top don’t move around very often. In fact, the same two commercial roofing companies have occupied either the top spot or runner-up for more than a solid decade. That’s not the case this year, as one giant roofing firm opted not to participate. Company officials cited no specific reasoning, stating broadly it was an executive management decision. So, more room for someone else to move up, and allowing perhaps someone new to crack the Top 10. Who’s out? You’ll have to see when that part of the list is published next week.

Revenue Reach

While still impressive – particularly near the top-tier – roofing revenues were down compared to Top 100 lists of earlier years. While the top-ranked company raked in more than $1billion, the final projected entries should generate roughly $5 million in roofing revenue. The cutoff for last year’s list was $21.2 million. There’s no doubt that a lighter storm season, pricing challenges and overall economic uncertainty played roles in this year’s submission process.

Commercial vs. Residential

Despite the perception of a down year in commercial roofing and construction in 2025, it appears that the majority of roofing contractors to submit qualifying entries for the Top 100 were in the commercial space this year. The early tabulation showed 42 or 44. That’s fairly consistent with prior years, however, last year’s list was dominated by residential contractors.

South Stays Supreme

More than two dozen different states are represented by roofing companies making an appearance on RC’s Top 100 Roofing Contractors List for 2026. Communities stretching from Holmdel, N.J., to Salem, Ore., are represented by roofers on the list. But roofers from the South and Southwest dominate this year’s ranking.

The highest number of companies hailed from all over Texas (16), followed by Florida (12) -- the only states with a dozen or more. Georgia and Ohio represented well with six companies each, while Illinois and California had five.

PE Power

The presence of private equity is still pretty prevalent in seemingly all sectors of the roofing industry. Though most around the industry don’t need a list to tell you that. Early returns show 18 different roofing companies on the Top 100 had affiliations with a roofing platform funded largely by private equity. Last year, the number was 19. Among roofing contractors projected to be in the top 10, eight partner with PE, collectively representing well over $4 billion in roofing revenue for the year.
