The calculators work offline and use coverage rates, waste factors and coefficients based on manufacturer specifications and building-code references. The company says results are intended as professional-grade estimates, with final ordering quantities to be verified through suppliers.

BuildCalc Pro is available as native iOS and Android apps and as a web app. Calculator features work without an internet connection, while price comparison and marketplace features require connectivity. A single subscription works across platforms.

The app is free to download and includes 16 calculators in its free tier. The Pro subscription unlocks the full calculator set, branded PDF estimates and contractor profile tools. The Business subscription adds access to the contractor marketplace with no per-lead fees.

Homeowners can use the free calculators, browse contractor profiles, post jobs and write reviews. When a homeowner posts a job, BuildCalc Pro holds contractor responses in a 72-hour blind period, during which contractors submit quotes independently without seeing competing bids.

After the blind period, homeowners can review responses side by side and choose whether to contact a contractor directly. 

The company says contact information is shared only with the contractor selected by the homeowner and is not resold or distributed to multiple contractors.
