Firefighters Rescue Worker From GA Rooftop
Worker injured, airlifted from 50-foot roof at Google data center

A construction worker was injured on the afternoon of April 3 at a Google data center site in LaGrange, Ga., and rescued from a rooftop about 50 feet above ground, officials said.
The LaGrange Fire Department responded around 2:47 p.m. April 3 to a reported injury at a construction site on Pegasus Parkway. Crews found the worker hurt while working at an elevated position on the structure.
Due to the height and complexity of the rescue, additional equipment, including an aerial platform, was brought in. Firefighters, along with Troup County AMR and on-site personnel, provided medical care and stabilized the worker before moving the individual to the roof’s edge.
The worker was secured and lowered to the ground using the aerial platform, then transported by helicopter to a regional trauma center.
Officials said the worker was in serious but stable condition.
The incident involved coordination among fire, police, emergency medical services and on-site responders.
The incident serves as a reminder that falls remain the leading cause of death in construction, according to OSHA. Federal data show that construction workers experienced more than 1,000 fatalities in 2024, including about 370 deaths from falls, slips and trips. Federal data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show roofing contractors have one of the highest fatality rates of any occupation, with about 52 deaths per 100,000 workers, and the majority of those deaths are caused by falls from height.
