OSHA Launches Safety Champions Workplace Program
Initiative aims to improve jobsite safety

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched a new Safety Champions Program aimed at helping employers improve workplace safety and health practices.
The voluntary program is designed to guide businesses in developing safety programs that prevent injuries, illnesses and fatalities through a framework of continuous improvement.
“The Department of Labor’s new Safety Champions Program exemplifies the commitment to supporting and empowering job creators,” said Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
The initiative includes three levels — introductory, intermediate and advanced — allowing employers to build safety programs over time based on OSHA’s recommended practices.

Participants may work independently or with special government employees who provide technical assistance.
The program focuses on seven core elements, including management leadership, worker participation, hazard identification, training and program evaluation.
OSHA said employers completing all levels are expected to demonstrate a comprehensive safety program and ongoing improvement efforts.
