The Single Ply Roofing Industry (SPRI), the association representing sheet membrane and component suppliers to the commercial roofing industry, announced in August 2025 that it is beginning the canvassing process to revise and reapprove ANSI/SPRI IA-1, a critical standard for testing roof substrate and adhesive compatibility in commercial roofing applications.

The ANSI/SPRI IA-1 standard establishes field test procedures that verify whether existing roof substrates and roof assemblies are suitable for use with specific adhesives. The testing protocol helps roof system manufacturers, design professionals, and other stakeholders determine substrate-adhesive compatibility across various types of insulation adhesives and substrates.

Initially developed in 2010 and last recanvassed in 2021, the standard provides essential data for ensuring proper adhesion performance in commercial roofing systems. The revision process aims to maintain the standard's relevance with current industry practices and technological advances.

The testing results generated through IA-1 procedures provide critical information for determining compatibility before full-scale installation.
