SPRI, the association representing sheet membrane and component suppliers to the commercial roofing industry, announced that it is reviewing the FX-1 Standard for re-approval as American National Standards.
The ANSI/SPRI FX-1 "Standard Field Test Procedure for Determining the Withdrawal Resistance of Roofing Fasteners" will be re-canvassed for reaffirmation as an American National Standard in the coming months. SPRI developed this standard for measuring the pullout resistance of roofing fasteners in field conditions. It was first published in 1996 and, per ANSI requirements, has been re-canvassed every five years. It was last updated and approved by ANSI in 2021.
The test helps identify potential weaknesses in a roofing system due to fastener performance, simulating the force they would experience under wind uplift. A minimum number of pullouts is specified, typically 10 for up to 50,000 square feet and five additional pullouts for each additional 50,000 square feet.
Those wishing to participate in the canvass process should contact SPRI at info@spri.org.
