SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Governors for the Scholarship Grant Committee awarded four Scholarship Grants to college-bound students in June 2022. Commercial Roofing Contractors of Southeastern Michigan, through the Southeastern Michigan Roofing Contractors Association (SMRCA), along with the Roofers Union Local #149 annually award college scholarships to dependents of employees of member roofing contractors.

This year’s winners are: 

• Anthony Ascencio – Detroit, Mich. 
• Tessa Horon – Emmett, Mich.
• Dominique Ladouceur – Harrison Twp., Mich. 
• Hector Molina – Detroit, Mich.

Applicants were asked to submit an essay by selecting one or more of the following topics: roofing technology, roofing safety, roofing impact or roofing ethics to the Joint Union/Contractor Scholarship Committee. Winners receive scholarships in the amount of $1,000 contributed by the SMRCA, Roofers Union Local #149 and the Contractor Employer.

Initiated over 20 years ago, this program is an example of the SMRCA/Roofers Union Local #149 and SMRCA Member Contractors working to promote continued education and to encourage industry dependents to attend college.
