The Better Business Bureau (BBB) Serving Eastern and Southwest Missouri and Southern Illinois honored two roofing contractors with a TORCH Award.
Allen Roofing & Siding in Ellisville, Mo. and Kirberg Co. in St. Louis were among the 10 businesses and two charities that received a TORCH Award during a virtual event held Oct. 21. TORCH Award winners are chosen by previous award winners, not the BBB.
“BBB TORCH Awards recognize companies and charities committed to exceptional service and high ethics,” said Michelle L. Corey, BBB St. Louis president and CEO, in a written statement. “These organizations have truly joined BBB’s mission of advancing marketplace trust in an exemplary way. They are role models for other businesses and nonprofits in the community.”
Allen Roofing is a roofing, siding, gutter and tuckpointing contractor that will mark 50 years in business next year. The company is a regular entrant on RC's annual Top 100 list, which ranks roofing contractors from around the country based on their annual revenue. This year, Allen Roofing claimed the 76th spot on the list after earning $21.6 million in revenue in 2020.
"It's an incredible honor, especially during these times," said Lee Allen, owner, during the BBB virtual ceremony. "We're very proud to receive the award. The process is you're basically being recognized by your peers, and that's how you get the award, and that's probably the most important thing is that when you have other businesses that feel you deserve the award, that's the feather in the hat."
Kirberg Co. is a fourth-generation family-owned roofing business providing residential and commercial roofing. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, and previously earned a TORCH Award in 2016.
"There's plenty of other wonderful businesses in the area, so you know being recognized for this is really a symbol of a great community and the great people that we have working for us," said Eric Kirberg, president. "We're a family business that goes beyond just the Kirberg family, but all the families and all the gentlemen and ladies that work for us, all have families as well, and we treat them all as our family. When we receive an award and recognition like this we really think of all those families and my extended family."
