Horch Roofing, based in Warren, Maine, recently awarded $3,500 in scholarships to four deserving students seeking careers in different trades.

“We believe it is important to encourage young men and women to study and seize opportunities for great careers within the trades,” said Owner and President Peter Horch. “There are thousands of trade jobs that go unfilled because there are not enough skilled laborers, and those with a trades education can get into great careers with earning opportunities very quickly.”

Horch Roofing recently awarded two direct scholarships through their Trade School Scholarship Program for 2019.

Justin Secotte, of Lincolnville, received a $1,000 scholarship to help his study of mechanical and electrical engineering at the University of Maine at Orono.

Matthew Scott, of Mount Vernon, received a $1,000 scholarship to help with He will study of precision machining at Central Maine Community College.

The two young men also received monogrammed Carhartt jackets with the Horch Roofing logo, similar to what the Horch Roofing crews wear in the winter.

In addition to the direct scholarships, Horch Roofing also delivered two scholarships through the Mid-Coast School of Technology in Rockland, Maine.

Alexis Cutliffe, of Rockport, received a $500 scholarship to help pursue nursing at Simmons University.

Horch Roofing was founded in 2003 with two full-time employees working out of Peter Horch’s home. Today, the company employs 42 year-round employees and consistently offers scholarships through a dedicated program. “I am honored and humbled that Horch Roofing has grown so much that I can now ‘pay it forward’ to the community,” said Horch, who attended Waldo County Technical Center in high school prior to starting his business. “I want local young people to feel encouraged in their pursuit of a trade career. These scholarships are just a small way for Horch Roofing to show that we support their career goals and their future.”

The trades scholarship is open once again. Applicants have until May 1, 2020, to apply on the Horch Roofing website.
