WARREN, Maine – Horch Roofing has announced that it has extended its trade scholarship to two $1,000 recipients in 2019.

The scholarship program was launched in 2018 to support Maine students pursuing a career in skilled-trade work. Last year, the roofing company offered one $1,000 scholarship and they are doubling this award in 2019.

“These scholarships will benefit students in Maine and aid them in launching a successful career in the trades,” says Horch Roofing Owner and President Peter Horch. “We believe it is important to encourage young men and women to study and seize opportunities for great careers within the trades. There are thousands of trade jobs that go unfilled because there are not enough skilled laborers, and those with trades education can get into great careers and earning opportunities very quickly. This scholarship will help two individuals find competence, satisfaction, enjoyment and a successful career in the trades, ideally at Horch Roofing. We are looking for candidates with a proven passion for the trades and enthusiasm to pursue a career in skilled work.”

Last year the scholarship was given to Bradley Nystrom, who is attending Central Maine Community College to study precision machining technology. Nystrom told Horch Roofing recently that he is on track to graduate this May. He says he has already toured machine shops in the area that need help and has no worry heading into the workforce this summer.

These $1,000 scholarships are focused on supporting students who are pursuing a career in skilled-trade work.

Eligible students will be those who are graduating high school in 2019 and are pursuing a degree or certificate at a college/trade school OR current college/trade school students who are focusing on a trade-related field.

Applicants must be Maine residents.
