August 2026 Product Focus: Underlayments
New roofing underlayments help contractors solve common jobsite and specification challenges, from improving installation efficiency to meeting fire-rating and energy-code requirements.

MFM Ultra HT Gains Class A Rating for WUI Roofing Applications
MFM Building Products has secured an additional Class A fire rating for its Ultra HT Wind & Water Seal roofing underlayment, expanding the product’s approved use in Wildland Urban Interface areas.
The Coshocton, Ohio-based manufacturer announced that the California State Fire Marshal has listed Ultra HT for use in W.U.I. zones when installed with Class A asphalt shingles. The approval falls under Listing No. 8180-2433:0001 in Category 8181 Non-Wood Roof Covering/Assemblies and meets applicable ASTM E108 requirements for Class A roof covering assemblies. W.U.I. areas represent zones where residential or commercial development meets undeveloped land or vegetative fuel sources, creating elevated wildfire exposure risks. Building product performance in these environments continues to receive increased scrutiny as wildfire activity intensifies across multiple regions of the U.S.
Ultra HT is a 45-mil self-adhered roofing underlayment designed for steep-slope roofing and re-roofing applications. The product incorporates a cross-laminated polyethylene top film with a traction surface intended to improve walkability during installation. Its high-temperature adhesive formulation is rated to 250°F for demanding roofing environments.
The new California State Fire Marshal approval adds to existing fire performance certifications for the product, including UL 790 and ASTM E108/ICC-ES AC188 compliance.

IB Roof Systems Launches TPO Membranes for Commercial Roofs
IB Roof Systems has introduced thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) membranes to its commercial roofing product line, expanding its single-ply offerings beyond PVC and liquid-applied systems. The membranes meet ASTM D6878 standards and are designed for large commercial roofing applications requiring durability, flexibility and consistent weldability.
The TPO membranes are available in smooth-back configurations in 60- and 80-mil thicknesses and fleece-back options in 115- and 135-mil. Color choices include white, tan and gray, with CRRC-rated options available to support energy efficiency and code compliance.
IB said the membranes are engineered for predictable installation and seam integrity, with reinforced construction and UV-resistant formulation for long-term weatherability. The TPO line integrates with the company’s existing system components, including insulation, coverboards, vapor barriers and accessories, and is supported by IB’s technical support and warranty programs.

Polyglass Adds FORTIFIED Roof Underlayment Products
Polyglass U.S.A., Inc. has added several underlayment products to its portfolio of roofing solutions qualified for use in Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety FORTIFIED Roof systems.
The underlayment products include Elastoflex SA P and Elastobase V low-slope membranes, Polystick PX HT self-adhered steep-slope underlayment and Elastoflex SA P FR, a fire-rated membrane option.
The IBHS FORTIFIED Roof standard is designed to help roof systems better withstand severe weather, including high winds, hail and heavy rain. Products qualified for use in FORTIFIED Roof systems must meet testing and rating requirements tied to the program’s storm-resilience standards.
Polyglass said the additions give contractors, municipalities, developers and homeowners more product options for roof assemblies designed to improve durability, moisture protection and high-wind resistance. The company announced the additions June 17 from Deerfield Beach, Fla.

MuleHide Adds Sizes to Help Crews Speed Low-Slope Roof Installations
MuleHide has expanded its White-on-Black self-adhering EPDM and Poly ISO flat insulation lines with new sizes aimed at improving installation efficiency.
The White-on-Black SA EPDM membrane is now available in 5-by-40-foot rolls. Smaller and lighter than traditional rolls, the format is designed for easier handling in high-rise, residential and space-constrained projects. The self-adhering membrane eliminates the need for bonding adhesive, reducing installation time while maintaining EPDM durability and providing a reflective surface for improved energy efficiency.
Poly ISO flat insulation is now offered in 4x12-foot panels, extending beyond the standard 4x8-foot size. The larger panels reduce the number of boards, seams and fasteners required on certain mechanically attached systems, helping streamline installation on large commercial roofs. MuleHide reports improved crew productivity and lower labor and material costs.
The insulation panels are available in multiple thicknesses and feature dual facers to help manage application conditions in fully adhered systems.

SikaShield Membrane Helps Roofers Manage Changing Weather
Sika Corporation’s Roofing & Waterproofing division has launched its SikaShield modified bitumen roofing brand in the U.S. market, along with SikaShield HB79, a hybrid modified bitumen membrane.
The membrane combines APAO, a type of APP polymer, with SBS asphaltic membrane technology in one sheet. According to Sika, the APAO top layer is designed for heat resistance and durability, while the SBS bottom layer provides elongation, cold-weather flexibility and adhesion to the substrate.
SikaShield HB79 is intended for buildings in regions with seasonal temperature changes and for projects where roofs may see heavy foot traffic during and after installation. The membrane is reinforced with polyester and glass fiber to support strength, elongation, tear resistance and dimensional stability.
