IBHS Expands Wildfire Program to 14 States
Focus on home, neighborhood risk reduction

The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety has expanded its Wildfire Prepared designation program to 14 states, adding 10 new states as demand grows for standardized wildfire risk reduction measures.
The program, launched in 2022, outlines steps homeowners, builders and communities can take to reduce wildfire damage. It includes designations for individual properties and neighborhoods, with requirements verified by a third party.
The two property-level designations—Wildfire Prepared Home and Wildfire Prepared Home Plus—focus on reducing risks from embers, radiant heat and direct flame exposure. A separate neighborhood designation aims to limit structure-to-structure fire spread.
“Wildfire doesn’t stop at a property line,” said Roy Wright, president and CEO of IBHS. “Once it enters a neighborhood, the built environment can either slow it down or help it spread.”
The program was previously available in California, Nevada, New Mexico and Oregon. It now includes Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
IBHS officials said the program is based on research into how homes ignite and emphasizes coordinated mitigation efforts, including building materials, landscaping and ongoing maintenance.
