DryHome Awards Free Roof to Family Facing Child’s Illness
Annual holiday program helps Northern Virginia family in need

DryHome Roofing and Siding awarded a free roof to Nabanita and Sougata Roy this holiday season through its 23rd annual Free Roof for the Holidays program. The Fairfax, Va., family was nominated by the DC Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, which supports children battling cancer and their families throughout the Washington, D.C., metro area.
“With their son’s health issues, the Roy family has struggled with mounting bills,” said Steve Gotschi, CEO of DryHome. “We hope this free roof brings some relief, comfort and peace of mind to this special family.”
Throughout November, the Sterling, Va.-based contractor accepted nominations from customers and community members to identify a Northern Virginia individual, family or nonprofit in need. DryHome selected the Roy family based on the condition of their roof, financial hardship related to ongoing medical care and the nonprofit’s nomination.
The roof on the Roys’ Fairfax townhouse showed signs of wear, but the family was unable to afford replacement costs due to their son’s continued treatments. DryHome replaced the roof on Dec. 30, helping ensure the home remains safe and secure during the winter months.
DryHome Roofing and Siding, which was RC's 2014 Contractor of the Year, has served Northern Virginia for more than 35 years. Since launching the Free Roof for the Holidays program, the company has donated 24 roofs valued at more than $250,000 to individuals and nonprofits across the region.
Past recipients have included Habitat for Humanity affiliates, veterans, families affected by cancer, homeless advocacy organizations and mental health nonprofits, including Pathway Homes, the program’s 2023 recipient.
