So what does China have to do with American business, and especially what does China have to do with the roofing business in the USA? A few things in the news lately have me thinking. 

A few months back my good friend, roofing contractor Tom Scribbins, approached me with an idea for a feature he would like to write for Roofing Contractor about the Better Business Bureau.

Not! The old laptop has been dying a slow death for the last year or so, and I thought it best to order a new unit in advance of its demise. 

Mark your calendar. I am marking mine. July 6, 2016, is when I will be able to write my complete and unabashed thoughts on changes coming to the supply chain in the roofing industry. 

There are so many great things to write about this beautiful Saturday morning. There was a moonset on the way out and a sunrise on the way back from my early-morning run. There was that email from our group publisher, Jill Bloom, yesterday announcing the new micro-site, Moving On (www.bnpmedia.com/movingon), which was set up to report on contractors who are moving on beyond all the bad news and recession talk. The stock market completed another mostly positive week and Mom is up visiting from Jacksonville. Life is good. 

It has been a busy fall. Things heated up in the lead-up to Roofing Contractor’s sixth annual Best of Success conference.

Speaking of consumer (no) confidence. It was sure nice of Time magazine to run a cover feature on why homeownership is such a terrible thing. 

I do not believe for a minute that the tax breaks passed by the Senate recently are anything more than political maneuvering. On the one hand, if the government is finally recognizing small business as the engine that creates jobs in our country that would be a good thing.

A lot to be thankful for as I sit on the deck overlooking our 110 acre backyard. Working here for the first time this season. Been too hot and humid up until this very day, the eve of Labor Day 2010. Thankful for some cool, dry weather. 

Some weeks are more interesting than others. And some just move fast, and you get to the end and wonder, “Did I actually accomplish anything?” For me last week was the former and this week the latter.
