The Midwest Roofing Contractors Association (MRCA) recognizes the winners of its various awards during its 2021 MRCA Conference and Expo, including the James Q. McCawley Award, its most prestigious honor.

This year’s McCawley Award went to Larry Marshall, president of L Marshall Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc. in Glenview, Ill. Marshall, a past president of the MRCA, entered the industry in the late '70s while attending law school at night. After graduating, he transformed L Marshall Roofing from a residential to commercial roofing business. It is in its 108th year in business, and in 2013, earned Roofing Contractor’s Commercial Contractor of the Year honor.

Aside from serving as the MRCA president, Marshall also served on the Chicago Roofing Contractors Association's board from 1990 to 1994 as well as on the city council for the City of Lake Forest, Ill. and supporting the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.

Other award winners included the 2021 ELITE Sharp Safety Award winners, which recognizes companies for their commitment to improving jobsite safety through the development, implementation and enforcement of safety programs. This year’s winners include:

Adams Roofing Inc., Royalty Roofing, T&K Roofing and Sheet Metal Company Inc., Texas Roof Management Inc., Zenith Roofing Services, LLC.
  • Gold: AAA Roofing Co. Inc., Delta Innovative Services, Fisher Roofing of Kearney, Kaw Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc., Rackley Roofing Company Inc., Roof Tech Inc., Wm Kramer & Son Inc.
  • Silver: Alpha Roofing Company, McDowall Company, Roofmasters Roofing & Sheet Metal Co. Inc.
  • Bronze: Highland Roofing Company Inc., Nu-Tec Roofing Contractors Inc.

The MRCA also named its 2021 Impact Award winner: the Dale family and the team at Kaw Roofing and Sheet Metal. They were recognized for the Michael Daly Memorial Scholarship Foundation, established in 2011 in memory of Michael Daly, the son of John and brother to Chris. The foundation provides financial support for continued education to family members working in Kansas City. More than $300,000 in funds have been provided to over 100 applicants in the last 10 years.

The 2021 MRCA Conference and Expo was held at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, Wis. on Nov. 9-11 and featured Bill Davidson, the great-grandson of Harley-Davidson founder William A. Davidson, and the son of William G. "Willie G." Davidson, as the keynote speaker.
