Polyglass' Polybrite® 70 Provides the Ideal Solution for Difficult Roofing Project

August 18, 2011
When building owner Jerry Heinrich was looking for a new roof for his manufacturing business, product quality and performance were on the top of his must-have list. The building holds special meaning to Heinrich as it has housed his family-owned business for over 60 years, enduring additions to its structure over the duration.

When building owner Jerry Heinrich was looking for a new roof for his manufacturing business, product quality and performance were on the top of his must-have list. The building holds special meaning to Heinrich as it has housed his family-owned business for over 60 years, enduring additions to its structure over the duration. That is why after carefully reviewing contractors’ bids, Heinrich chose Gardena, California-based Central Roofing to replace his aging roof.

Home to Deccofelt Corporation’s corporate office and manufacturing facility in Glendora, Calif., Heinrich’s building’s roof is over 30,000 square feet and covers office and warehouse space and adjacent manufacturing facilities for their adhesive coating and laminating lines. The nature of their materials such as foam, felt, cork, and various films and fabrics require maintaining clean conditions throughout the transition for their converted products used in medical, automotive, and building markets. As the president and owner of Deccofelt, it was important to Heinrich to not disturb the building occupants and to have a roof system installed quickly.

The specification for the roof called for Polyglass’ Polybrite® 70, a white elastomeric roof coating over a modified bitumen membrane. Brendan Jones of Central Roofing was the project manager on the job. “We are very familiar with Polyglass and its torch products. Having never used Polybrite, we were excited to expand our exposure to Polyglass’ family of products,” said Jones.

After tearing of the existing roof, base and cap sheets were installed followed by two coats of Polybrite roof coating. Polybrite 70 is a premium-grade bright white water-based elastomeric coating which cures to form a seamless membrane when applied over the entire roof area. Offering the ability to extend the life cycle of new and existing roof systems, in addition to keeping the surface cool, Polybrite 70 provides protection from ultraviolet sun and other weather exposures.

“The application of Polybrite 70 was fast, easy and clean. We were able to complete the job in just over a month with little to no interruption to the building occupants. We chose to spray the product and the result was an evenly coated, highly reflective roof,” commented Jones. Polybrite meets Cool Roof Rating Council standards for solar reflectance and thermal emittance and is California Title 24 compliant, making it an ideal product forimproved energy efficiency.

“The product went down really well and the building owner was pleased with the final result,” said Jones. Upon completion of the installation, a 15-year Polyglass Warranty was issued for the project.
