Betram Named Next President at CSI
The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) announced that Paul Bertram, Jr., FCSI, CDT, LEED AP, will become president of the organization on July 1.
The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) announced that Paul Bertram, Jr., FCSI, CDT, LEED AP, will become president of the organization on July 1. Bertram is former owner and President/CEO of PRB Design. He is currently Director, Environment & Sustainability, for Kingspan North America, a member of the Kingspan Group, which has more than 100 offices in more than 40 countries worldwide.
In his role at Kingspan, Bertram is engaged in leading-edge programs that are new areas of interest for CSI including: material Life Cycle Assessment and environmental reporting, energy modeling, various energy efficiency and sustainability standards development, and high performance building strategies.
“CSI’s role is clear – its purpose is to provide the integrated building team leadership in communicating, organizing and managing project information for the built environment,” Bertram said. “CSI’s diversity of membership provides a unique platform where intercommunication of disciplines can be better realized. This cross-pollination is essential in whole building design. This leadership through collaborate efforts with other associations, code bodies and standards developing organizations provides integrated industry outcomes.”
Bertram joined CSI in 1991 and was advanced to Fellow, one of CSI’s highest honors, in 2003. During the past 20 years, he has served in numerous leadership positions at the local, regional and national levels. Currently, he is chair of CSI’s GreenFormat Program Maintenance Task Team and a member of the UniFormat Task Team. His past national service includes both the Nominating and Education Committees and the Convention Advisory and Sustainable Facility Task Teams. He is a member of CSI’s Greater Orlando and District of Columbia Chapters, and a charter member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Chapter. He has served for several years on the editorial advisory board for The Construction Specifier.
“We are pleased that Mr. Bertram will be serving as CSI’s President,” CSI Executive Director and CEO Walter Marlowe, P.E., CSI, CAE, said. “He brings 20 years of CSI leadership to the office, as well as dedication and commitment to improving and promoting the Institute’s products and initiatives.”
Bertram has been recognized by his chapter, region and the Institute with numerous awards. Of note are the Greater Orlando Chapter’s Royce B. Howe Award, CSI’s Southeast Region’s Distinguished Service Award and, in 2006, the Institute President’s Plaque.
Bertram earned an Associates degree from Northern Virginia Community College and completed the US Navy’s Basic Electricity and Electronics School in 1971. He is a Vietnam veteran and an Eagle Scout, where he achieved Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow.
