The rankings are based solely on annual revenue, and participation was voluntary. When final tabulations were compiled the companies who responded made up an eclectic group whose 2008 sales revenue ranged between $547 million and $2 million.

At the top of the list is Tecta America Corp., headquartered in Skokie, Ill., whose 29 divisions, 50 locations and 3,000 roofing professionals combined for more than $547 million in revenue last year. The company strives to leverage flexibility at the local level with the economies of scale the entire company can bring to bear.
