Arizona Condo Project Installs Solar Shingle Roof
Integrated system powers clubhouse

A North Scottsdale condominium development is incorporating an integrated solar roofing system designed to generate renewable energy while serving as the finished roof surface.
Belgravia Group announced construction progress on the clubhouse at Atavia, an 88-unit condominium community, where a solar roof featuring SunStyle photovoltaic shingles will be installed as part of the building's design.
The roofing system, distributed in North America through CertainTeed Solar Solutions, uses photovoltaic shingles that are integrated directly into the roof assembly rather than mounted above the roof surface. According to the developer, the system is expected to generate approximately 55,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, potentially offsetting most of the clubhouse's energy consumption.
Belgravia Group said the project will be the first in Arizona to utilize the SunStyle solar roofing system.
“We wanted the sustainability component to feel fully integrated into the architecture,” said Jonathan McCulloch, CEO of Belgravia Group. “We didn’t want to apply traditional rectangular panels on the roof, which can detract from an otherwise beautiful design. This product allowed us to incorporate renewable energy in a way that complements the design rather than competing with it.”

The clubhouse design, created by KTGY, incorporates sloped rooflines and exposed structural elements inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West. The solar shingles are designed to function as both a weatherproof roofing material and an energy-generating system.
Jessie Schiavone, general manager of CertainTeed Solar Solutions, said the project highlights the growing use of building-integrated photovoltaics in residential and community developments.
“SunStyle delivers a fully integrated solar roofing system that generates clean energy while preserving architectural integrity,” Schiavone said. “We’re proud to contribute a solution that enhances both the aesthetics and functionality of the space.”
Construction on the clubhouse continues with the slab completed, pool excavation underway and steel erection expected to begin in the coming weeks. Maris Construction of Arizona is serving as general contractor.
The clubhouse is part of Atavia, an 88-unit condominium development within the One Scottsdale master-planned community.
