Each year, Roofing Contractor takes on the challenge of recognizing the commercial and residential roofing companies that are making a difference in their markets and are visibly striving for better performance to drive the roofing industry forward. We call them our Contractors of the Year, and the time is coming near to name the winners, which happens from the stage on day one of the Best of Success conference.

That occurs on Dec. 4 this year at the Live by Loews in Arlington, Texas. The announcement will conclude a 10-month-long process that began in January when we opened the submission period. Dozens of roofing contractors from around the country submitted their information and await their chance to take the stage. While the RC committee continues the final steps of its evaluation process, we wanted to share with you the companies that stood out.

Here’s our finalists for the 2025 Commercial Roofing Contractor of the Year, presented in alphabetical order:

BEST CONTRACTING SERVICES – Gardena, Calif.

KEY ATTRIBUTES:

  • Full Building Envelope Services, specializing in roofing, waterproofing, glazing and sheet metal.
  • Union affiliation allows for public sector work, including major stadiums, public facilities and landmarks.
  • Award-winning work from associations and manufacturing partners. BEST reports growing total revenue by more than 37% since 2020.

FROM THEIR ENTRY:

“Most companies have a formal mission statement and so do we. However, in practical terms, our mission is to see your problems through your eyes and to provide sound economical solutions with your best interests in mind, which not only solve the problem but make you feel good about the result. Our approach is based on life-cycle analysis rather than a quick, thoughtless, low estimate simply to acquire business.”

D.C. TAYLOR – Cedar Rapids, Iowa

KEY ATTRIBUTES:

  • Family-owned and operated by the third generation of Taylors.
  • On average, it completes 2.5 million square feet of roofing for customers throughout the continental United States each year.
  • Growth: 35% in employees (93 FTE) since 2022; Sales have steadily grown in the past three years.

FROM THEIR ENTRY:

“While the commitment to excellence, quality, and customer service has been consistent since 1949, under third-generation Brent Taylor’s leadership, the company has taken a team-centered approach to management versus working in silos. This direction has led to more collaboration, a greater sense of empowerment, and continued employee loyalty.”

FROM THEIR ENTRY:

“We are deeply committed to cultivating the next generation of craftspeople. Our internal apprenticeship and cross-training program equips employees with hands-on experience and a strong foundation in preservation theory. Trainees learn not only slate installation, but how roofing interacts with structural systems, flashing details, and materials science. This ensures that every Durable Slate roofer can think critically and execute work that meets the highest preservation standards.”
