ARMA Honors Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers for Achievements in Workplace Safety

July 13, 2015

WASHINGTON — The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has recognized 14 asphalt-roofing manufacturers that are leading the industry in workplace safety. The association’s annual Safety Contest awards individual roofing facilities for their low incident rates among workers during the past year.

The 2014 Safety Contest recognized 96 individual facilities based on their exceptional quarterly safety data reports for the calendar year. These reports were submitted to ARMA’s Health, Education and Safety (HSE) Committee throughout the year, and were judged based on number of hours completed and an ARMA INDEX derived from the same definitions and criteria set forth by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Each facility’s exceptional safety record showed a strong commitment to employee wellbeing.

“We must come together as an industry to demonstrate how seriously we view workplace health and safety,” said ARMA Executive Vice President Reed Hitchcock. “For more than 30 years, this contest has allowed ARMA to honor members’ facilities that share our commitment to safety and pledge to improve in that area.”

ARMA’s Safety Contest is open to all manufacturer members. They can submit data for their entire company, or a specific division, plant or mill in North America. Winners are recognized in four different categories: the President’s Award, the Award of Excellence, the Perfect Employee Safety Certificate and the Certificate of Improvement.
