YOUNGWOOD, Pa. — Firestone Building Products Company has announced that its Youngwood, Pa., manufacturing facility has been recognized for its environmental efforts to help stabilize a community park with the Community Environmental Service Award from the Sewickley Creek Watershed Association (SCWA) and an official proclamation from the County of Westmoreland.

SCWA Executive Director Thomas Keller presented the award to Youngwood Plant Manager Michael McCrea for the company’s efforts to help maintain and improve Lynch Field Park in Greensburg, Pa., which is subject to periodic flooding. Ted Kopas, county commissioner of Westmoreland, presented a proclamation to mark the achievements reached by the Youngwood facility and its employees.

Since 2012, Firestone has partnered with SCWA and the City of Greensburg’s Parks and Recreation Department to help stabilize Lynch Field Park. Over several weekends, volunteers from Firestone and SCWA helped prevent future flooding by:

• Re-grading stream banks

• Stabilizing banks with riprap

• Planting trees, shrubs and grass

• Repairing a jack dam

• Building an educational kiosk and signage

“I’m proud and honored by the recognition given to our employees, who worked hard on the Lynch Field Park project,” said McCrea. ”Our employees are committed to improving the communities in which we work and live. We are proud to call the Youngwood region home and look forward to future projects and initiatives in the local community.”

In addition to the company’s volunteer efforts, The Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund, through its Youngwood facility, donated two grants to help purchase materials for stabilization projects. The Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund proudly supports a wide variety of important charities in the United States, particularly in those locations Firestone calls home.

Firestone’s positive impact on Lynch Field Park and the Youngwood region coincides with its One Team, One Planet sustainability platform and reaffirms the company’s commitment to fulfilling its mission “to help ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations.” Additional information about Firestone’s sustainability efforts and environmental activities can be found in the company’s 2013 Sustainability Report.
