Instructors and apprentices in the three-year program at Roofers Union Local 149 volunteered to replace the roof at a residence in Pontiac, Mich.

PONTIAC, Mich. - Volunteers joined forces to complete free home repairs for low-income senior homeowners for Christmas in Action in Oakland County, Mich. Two houses in Pontiac received new roofs courtesy of the Southeastern Michigan Roofing Contractors Association (SMRCA). Joe Benson of Benson's Oakland Wholesale Inc., a member of the board of directors for Christmas in Action of Oakland County, noted that the member contractors of the association provided the materials, which Oakland Wholesale delivered at no charge. Completing the installations were volunteers from T.F. Beck Co. of Rochester Hills, Mich., which replaced the entire back deck and roof on one house while instructors and apprentices from Roofers Union Local No. 149, headquartered in Oak Park, Mich., replaced the roof on another residence across town. “We were happy to supply the labor, and the weather helped out,” said Bob Drogosch of Roofers Union Local No. 149.
