Cap Nails for Roofing Felts
January 31, 2002
Olympic Manufacturing Group Inc., Agawam, Mass., introduced its first residential roofing fastener. Olympic has trade named the residential fastener OlyKap™. It is designed to be used by professional contractors for fastening roofing felts, sheathing and housewrap, and will be sold to the roofing industry market by Olympic’s nationwide sales force. The cap nail is manufactured for the company by B-Kap Enterprises Inc., Rural Hall, N.C. The round plastic cap nail is available in sizes ranging from 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches in either plastic buckets or cardboard boxes. It has a low profile head to eliminate “show through,” felt gripper ribs on the underside of the flexible round head assure a tight hold without damaging the felt, sheathing or house wrap. The nail comes assembled with polyethylene caps that will not stiffen or crack in cold weather and will allow roofing nails to penetrate the caps when nailing shingles.
