AI Use Jumps Among Construction Firms, Houzz Survey Finds
Contractors reporting significant time savings and productivity gains

Artificial intelligence adoption among construction firms accelerated sharply in 2026, with more than half of surveyed businesses now using AI for everyday tasks, according to Houzz’s latest State of AI in Construction & Design report.
Houzz found 52% of construction firms use AI-powered tools for business tasks, up 20 percentage points from 2025. Another 34% are exploring AI, while 14% reported no current use or plans to adopt the technology. Among construction firms already using AI, 80% said they use it daily.
Sales and marketing emerged as the most common business function for AI use, cited by 64% of construction firms, followed by planning and design at 61%, project and client management at 59%, administrative work at 52%, and business operations at 45%. Estimates and proposals were the most common project-management application, used by 87% of respondents employing AI in that area.
The survey also points to measurable productivity gains. Construction firms using AI reported saving an average of 4.7 hours per week, while 32% said the technology saves them eight hours or more. Houzz estimates those time savings translate into an average annual productivity gain of $244,000 per construction firm, based on self-reported time savings and annual revenue.
Contractors also reported using AI to improve customer-facing work. Fifty-eight percent said the technology helps produce more professional proposals, 52% said it allows them to show clients visuals faster, and 39% said it helps them respond to clients more quickly.
The findings come from Houzz’s survey of 601 U.S. construction and design businesses conducted between June and July 2026. The construction portion includes professionals providing residential or commercial construction services and is not specific to roofing contractors.
