Acusan a contratista de roofing de aprovecharse de víctimas de tornados

Fiscalía de Missouri presentó 23 cargos.

Un contratista de roofing de Missouri enfrenta cargos por presuntamente aprovecharse de propietarios que buscaban reparar sus viviendas después de los tornados que azotaron el área de St. Louis en 2025.

La fiscal general de Missouri, Catherine Hanaway, anunció que Jacob Kaestner, propietario de JK Exteriors, fue acusado de 23 cargos relacionados con prácticas comerciales engañosas en el condado de Jefferson.

Según las autoridades, Kaestner recibió pagos por adelantado para realizar trabajos de roofing, canaletas y revestimiento exterior, pero en varios casos las obras nunca se completaron. En algunos proyectos, incluso, los trabajos ni siquiera comenzaron.

La investigación señala que 16 consumidores habrían perdido más de $131,000 en conjunto. Entre las presuntas víctimas se encuentran siete adultos mayores.

De acuerdo con la fiscalía, la mayoría de las personas afectadas sufrió daños en sus viviendas tras los tornados que impactaron la región de St. Louis en marzo y mayo de 2025.

"Tras los tornados y otros desastres naturales, las familias se encuentran en uno de sus momentos más vulnerables, y quienes buscan aprovecharse de ese dolor son reprensibles", señaló Hanaway en un comunicado.

Las autoridades también afirman que uno de los trabajos fue concluido únicamente después de que el contratista supo que el cliente había presentado una queja ante el estado.

El caso fue investigado por la División de Protección al Consumidor de la fiscalía estatal y actualmente es procesado por la oficina del fiscal general adjunto. Además, JK Exteriors también es objeto de una investigación por parte de la Oficina del Sheriff del condado de Jefferson.

Las acusaciones forman parte de los esfuerzos de las autoridades para combatir posibles fraudes relacionados con la recuperación de viviendas después de desastres naturales, cuando muchos propietarios buscan contratistas para realizar reparaciones urgentes.
