Action Roofing Services Surprises Florida Veteran with Free Roof
Special Forces service member had 20-year-old roof in need of replacing

Action Roofing Services, a member of the Peak Roofing Partners Family of Companies, collaborated with Operation Healing Forces to provide a completely free roof to Staff Sergeant Mike S., a Special Forces servicemember residing in Gainesville., Fla.
The surprise launched the first Action Roofing's Veterans Day Giveaway to honor active-duty servicemembers and veterans to recognize the sacrifices made by them and their families.
Action Roofing learned about Mike’s situation through its ongoing collaboration with Operation Healing Forces, a Tampa-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to serving the wounded, ill, injured, and fallen U.S. Special Operations Forces community.
The Action Roofing team provided all materials and labor at no cost to the family. The 20-year-old roof has reached the end of its functional lifespan, with visible signs of wear that would likely fail during the next major storm. For a family with a 1-year-old child, this presented both a safety concern and a financial challenge.
“As a Special Forces veteran, I’m deeply grateful to Action Roofing, Operation Healing Forces and the generous donors for this gift of a new roof. This lifts a great financial burden and gives my family peace of mind while I’m away for training and deployments. Your support restores more than just a home, it honors our service and reminds us of why we serve. De Opresso Liber,” said Mike, who requested his full name be withheld.
The Staff Sergeant earned the Meritorious Service Medal for his leadership and operational impact during his recent deployment to Niger, Africa with Operational Detachment Alpha 2314. During this mission, he trained and mentored local security forces in medical and tactical skills essential for maintaining regional security.
"Supporting military families like Mike’s represents a core value for our company," said Bruce Bessire, chief operating officer at Peak Roofing Partners. "When we learned about a Special Forces medic with a failing roof over his young family's heads, we knew we needed to act quickly. This repair ensures their home remains protected through Florida's challenging weather seasons."
The project also recognizes the Staff Sergeant's extensive contributions to both military and civilian security. His previous role as a firearms training instructor at the Multi-jurisdictional Counter Drug Task Force Training Center provided critical skills to law enforcement agencies across multiple jurisdictions, creating a ripple effect of enhanced public safety that extends far beyond his military service.
"Staff Sergeant Mike exemplifies the dedication and sacrifice of our Special Operations Forces community," said Kerry Irvin, CEO at Operation Healing Forces. "As a medic, he's trained to save lives in the most dangerous environments, and now Action Roofing has stepped up to protect his family's home. This generous roof repair allows his family to focus on their young daughter without worrying about storm damage or leaks."
