When brothers Luigi, Romano, and Antonio Zanchetta created their first modified bitumen compound formulation for roofing membranes in Italy in the 1960s, they couldn't have anticipated how significantly their product innovations with Polyglass would impact the roofing and waterproofing industries over the coming years.

From opening their first plant in Italy in 1972 to later business expansions into the U.S. and their acquisition by The Mapei Group in 2008, Polyglass continues to carve out its name as an industry leader and expert manufacturer of innovative and quality roofing and waterproofing technologies.

To this day, Polyglass remains a family business, with Natalino Zanchetta — the son of founder Romano Zanchetta — at the helm in his role as president/CEO.

“In 30 years, we innovated, we created a lot of products that are very, very good for the industry," said Zanchetta. "The roofing industry is evolving; there are challenges every year, especially labor challenges, material challenges, and we as Polyglass are really trying to find the solutions through our people, through engaging our people, making them work together, and so far since day one [it has] been working very very well.”

Polyglass’ future is bright, with several new initiatives in the pipeline, including expansions at some of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in North America. With the support of Mapei’s extensive network of research and development partners, Polyglass now looks to expand its products and solutions to serve new markets in 2022, beginning with the Building Envelope industry.

Polyglass anticipates celebrating 30 exceptional years with customers and employees alike throughout the new year.
