PIMA Publishes Updated EPDs for Polyiso Roof, Wall Insulation, Polyiso High-Density Cover Boards

Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association
December 1, 2020

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association (PIMA) announced that the most current Polyiso Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are now available on its website. The third-party verified, ISO-compliant EPDs for polyiso products provide environmental impact information for roof and wall insulation as well as high-density cover board products manufactured by PIMA members across the U.S. and Canada.

An EPD is an internationally recognized and standardized tool that reports the environmental impacts of products over a specific life cycle.

PIMA’s industry-wide EPDs are cradle-to-grave and report impacts from the full product life cycle over a 75-year building service life as specified in the Product Category Rule (PCR) for thermal insulation. This life-cycle analysis includes environmental impacts resulting from the supply and transport of raw materials as well as the manufacture, transport, install, replacement and end-of-life disposal of polyiso products.

Also included in the declarations is information regarding the energy savings benefit of utilizing polyiso roof products on new and existing buildings. This information describes how environmental impacts from the manufacturing phase of polyiso products may be “recovered” during their use phase through energy savings resulting from improved building energy efficiency.

Polyiso Roof EPD

This declaration documents the environmental impacts and benefits of polyiso roof insulation manufactured to meet the industry product standards for the U.S. and Canada. The EPD is applicable to polyiso roof insulation manufactured with glass fiber reinforced felt facers and polymer-bonded coated glass facers (ASTM C1289, Type II, Class 1 and 2; CAN/ULC S704.1, Types 1, 2 and 3).

Polyiso Wall EPD

This declaration documents the environmental impacts and benefits of polyiso wall insulation manufactured to meet the industry product standards for the U.S. and Canada. The EPD is applicable to polyiso wall insulation manufactured for commercial and residential construction with glass fiber reinforced aluminum foil facers (ASTM C1289, Type I, Class 1 and 2; CAN/ULC S704.1, Type 1).

Polyiso High-Density Cover Board EPD

This declaration documents the environmental impacts and benefits of polyiso high-density (HD) roof cover boards manufactured to meet the industry product standards for the U.S. and Canada. This EPD is applicable to polyiso HD cover boards manufactured with polymer-bonded coated glass facers (ASTM C1289, Type II, Class 4; CAN/ULC S704.1, Type 4, 5 and 6).

PIMA’s EPD reports can be found here.
