Members of the Roofing Contractors Association of Southern California (RCASoCal) recently gathered to play a little competitive golf for a good cause at the 27th Annual Jim Nienow Golf Tournament.

More than 150 roofing contractors and industry professionals returned to the Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, Calif. to help raise money for a critical scholarship drive that helps association members, their families and their employees achieve a college education. The event began with a greeting from RCASoCal board members — and for the first time ever in the event’s history, a special visit from the world-famous Los Angeles Laker Girls.

A little cloudy weather and light rain didn’t dampen any spirits or deter any action on the links as players finished a full 18 holes and then enjoyed a barbeque buffet dinner and live raffl e with great items provided by sponsors. A team comprised of local manufacturers took fi rst place while the Lang Roofing team captured second.

More importantly, the organization awarded $21,000 in academic scholarships this year to 19 deserving students.

“The James Nienow Scholarship makes a big difference in people’s lives. It paves the way for students like me to achieve their dreams and goals,” wrote Maria Fatima B. Nifas, a scholarship winner studying accounting at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).

“With the contribution that the association has given me, I’m a step closer to finishing my studies and becoming a CPA. Thank you for making dreams come true.”

The RCASoCal awarded more than $180,000 in scholarships over the past eight years alone, and helped 161 students since the fund launched. Visit www.rcasocal.org for more information and a list of this year’s recipients.
