CertainTeed Corporation announced the appointment of Tom Smith as president of CertainTeed Roofing and Mark Rayfield as president of the Company’s Siding Products Group, effective September 1, 2011.

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. – CertainTeed Corporation announced the appointment of Tom Smith as president of CertainTeed Roofing and Mark Rayfield as president of the Company’s Siding Products Group, effective September 1, 2011.

“Tom and Mark have remarkable track records at CertainTeed and its parent company, Saint-Gobain, respectively, bringing decades of expertise and proven leadership in effective management, innovation and sustainability,” said John Crowe, president of CertainTeed. “They will play an integral role in ensuring that CertainTeed is at the forefront of next generation building products and construction practices.”

In his new role, Smith is responsible for residential and commercial roofing as well as CertainTeed’s burgeoning solar business. Smith joined CertainTeed in 1999 as vice president of CertainTeed Commercial Roofing. In 2005, he joined the siding products group as vice president and general manager and was promoted to president in October 2005. Prior to joining CertainTeed, he held a variety of positions in general business and operations management with American Sunny Foods, Pacific Rice Products, Kaiser Aluminum & Chemicals and G.S. Roofing. Smith holds a B.S in Chemical Engineering from the University of California-Davis. He is preceded by Guillaume Texier, who recently accepted the position as president of Saint-Gobain’s global ceramics group.

Rayfield previously served as vice president and general manager for Saint-Gobain Abrasives in North America and vice president for Superabrasives Worldwide. In his new role, Rayfield will oversee the company’s vinyl, fiber cement and polymer shake siding, fence, railing, deck and cellular PVC trim product lines. Rayfield joined Saint-Gobain Abrasives as director of sales in 1999 and was later promoted to positions as vice president of distribution markets and sales and marketing, respectively. He has also served as vice president of sales for Piab USA, Inc. Rayfield studied at Clarkson University, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial Distribution and completed the Tuck Executive Program at Dartmouth College.
