GLENVIEW, Ill. - Scott Kriner, LEED AP, technical director for the Metal Construction Association (MCA) and The Metal Initiative (TMI), was appointed as chair of the Cool Roof Rating Council's (CRRC) technical committee at their June 8, 2011 board meeting in Reno, Nev. Kriner served as vice chair of the technical committee in 2010. He replaces Rick Olson of the Tile Roofing Institute, who stepped down when elected to the CRRC board of directors.
The Cool Roof Rating Council develops accurate and credible methods for evaluating and labeling the solar reflectance and thermal emittance (radiative properties) of roofing products and disseminates the information to all interested parties.
“The CRRC looks forward to having Scott serve in this capacity and is confident that he will chair the committee in a fair and balanced manner,” said Sherry Hao, administrative manager of the council. CRRC's technical committee is charged with understanding and resolving core science and technical issues such as standard ASTM methods, round-robin testing programs for Accredited Laboratories, weathering test farm protocols, etc. All CRRC committee chair positions also serve as ex-officio board members.
Kriner has been participating in CRRC meetings since the council's inception in 1998. He served as chair of several task groups and most recently represented the cool metal roofing industry through the successful adoption of the Color Family Procedures that are now in use.
“I am honored and humbled by the appointment from the board,” said Kriner. “The technical activities of CRRC are the backbone of the organization and over its history we have had exceptional chairpersons leading the technical program. They left large shoes to fill indeed.”
