Responsible Care is a global chemical industry performance initiative implemented in the U.S. by the American Chemical Council. Responsible Care companies have reduced environmental releases by 73 percent over the past 18 years and achieved an employee safety record that is more than four times safer than the average of the U.S. manufacturing sector as a whole. Since 1992, RC companies have reduced greenhouse gas intensity by a remarkable 23 percent. All of the more than 200 companies taking part in the Responsible Care initiative undergo headquarters and facility audits to assure that they have a structure and system in place to measure, manage and verify performance.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world’s largest developer and publisher of International Standards. Successful registration to the ISO 14001:2004 standard means that an organization has met specific environmental management system standards.
