The Garland Company recently updated its eco-friendly GreenShield vegetative roof technology to be more installation and maintenance friendly by introducing easily movable, interlocking container modules that encapsulate the plant material and the underlying growth layers. The system uses specially designed industrial-grade 46-inch by 46-inch modules that are molded with pallet channels (for fork-lifting) and drainage perforations. The pallet channels also serve as port ways for drainage and/or irrigation, and provide beneficial airflow to the root systems. The modules can be easily cut and shaped to any landscape setting, and sprinkler heads can be cut into the modules wherever they are needed.
