VALLEY FORGE, Pa. - CertainTeed Corporation announced the expansion of its line of Landmark Solaris solar reflective roofing shingles to include nationwide availability of additional colors. The shingles comply with ENERGY STAR guidelines, are eligible for federal tax credits and help fulfill the growing demand for energy-efficient roofing products.

The broader color palette will enable roofing contractors to offer cool roofing options without compromising aesthetics. The current palette of high-definition color blends - Weathered Wood, Burnt Sienna, Resawn Shake and Heather Blend - will continue to be available on the West Coast; however, nationally CertainTeed now introduces four more subdued color blends: Crystal Gray, Sunset Shake, Aged Cedar and Dusky Clay.

“In many cases, people assume they need to install white shingles or solar panels to improve the energy efficiency of their homes,” said Bob Gardiner, vice president of marketing for CertainTeed Roofing. “They are quite surprised to find out they can have an asphalt shingle that can lower a roof’s temperature without sacrificing curb appeal.”

Across the nation, homeowners are realizing that certain improvements made to their homes will improve energy efficiency and help the environment - a powerful selling point - and through the newly established federal tax credits outlined in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, homeowners can earn up to a $1,500 credit on their income taxes by installing Landmark Solaris shingles.

“We introduced Landmark Solaris on the West Coast last year, and the demand has been very robust, thanks to the rapidly emerging trend toward higher energy efficiency in America,” Gardiner said. “Soon after introduction, we realized an increasing demand for the product in other parts of the country and have responded quickly.”

Landmark Solaris uses proprietary reflective granule technology to repel the sun’s rays and lower the surface temperature of a roof by up to 20 percent during warm months. This puts less demand on a home’s air conditioning system and reduces energy consumption. Landmark Solaris features a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on residential applications and is designed to withstand up to 130 mile per hour winds, when installed with CertainTeed starter products and hip and ridge accessories.

Landmark Solaris shingles are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CCRC) meet California’s Title 24 requirements for cool steep roofing and may qualify for credits through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and the National Association of Home Builders’ Green Building (NAHB) Program. Landmark Solaris also holds the designation as an ENERGY STAR Qualified Product, a label given to products that use less energy, save money and help protect the environment. The shingles feature a Class 1(A) fire resistance rating and are certified to meet ASTM D3462 and ASTM D3018 Type 1. For more information, visitcertainteed.com.
