Donald C. Portfolio Receives RCMA's Highest Honor
The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) announced that Donald C. Portfolio is the recipient of the RCMA's prestigious Martin A. Davis RCMA Industry Leadership Award.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) announced that Donald C. Portfolio is the recipient of the RCMA's prestigious Martin A. Davis RCMA Industry Leadership Award.
This award is the highest tribute bestowed by the RCMA and is presented on an annual basis to that individual, selected by his or her peers, who has exemplified outstanding service and made significant contributions to the roof coatings industry.
The award was presented to Portfolio at the 2009 President's Dinner during the RCMA 2009 Annual Conference & Expo held at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort, Dana Point, Calif. Portfolio is President, PRI Construction Materials Technologies, LLC, in Tampa, Fla., one of the premier testing labs for roofing products. Previously, his technical expertise has served companies such Owens Corning and Tremco. His dedication to the roofing industry is evidenced by his active involvement in RCMA as well as the Roof Consultants Institute and the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association.
Throughout his career, Portfolio has encouraged and mentored many talented professionals. One such person is Joseph Mellott, now Director of Business Development at the Garland Company, Cleveland, Ohio.
“I have known Don as a tough, honest competitor; a reasonable, intelligent customer; and a hard working and reliable supplier,” Mellott said. “I respect him for all of that. However, I am most grateful to Don as a compassionate, caring boss and mentor. I remember when Don gave a young engineering student a chance and unknowingly set a career into motion. It may be that Don does not know the full effect of his kindness and understanding, especially during a difficult period when that young man lost his father. To this day, that experience represents a core value in his life and serves as proof of the basic goodness of man in the difficult world of business.”
Beyond the roofing industry, Portfolio’s dedication extends to his supportive wife Vicki, who is present everywhere and anywhere that he goes; additionally, he encourages young talent as an avid soccer fan, supporting neighborhood youth leagues by coaching soccer in his spare time.
Portfolio is the 25th industry leader to receive the RCMA's top honor. The award was first presented in 1985 posthumously to Martin A. Davis. The award was subsequently designated in honor and memory of Davis, a visionary founding member of the RCMA, who served both the Association and the industry with distinction and exceptional service.
The permanent Martin A. Davis Award plaque, now engraved with Portfolio’s name, is displayed at the RCMA headquarters office in Washington, D.C.
