Corona, Calif. - DECRA Roofing Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of stone coated steel roofing panels, is a proud participant in the first international sustainable energy demonstration community in Beijing, China. The Future House community consists of ten homes, sponsored by countries from around the world, each designed and built with the common goal of bringing together the best building practices and materials demonstrating environmental responsibility.

The Future House project was commissioned by China’s Ministry of Construction, PRC to address the issue of greenhouse gases and demonstrate a community in which the most sustainable building practices were implemented. Prompted by the phenomenal growth anticipated in China during the next decade, the Future House community is intended to help with promoting solutions to address China’s growing energy concerns as they prepare to build over 100 million homes. The Future House USA project will specifically provide practical information and education on the use of advanced non-toxic building materials (no/low volatile organic compounds) as well as energy efficiency (high energy performance) and sustainability (Zero Net Energy Home).

DECRA Tile was selected for the roof and installed on a batten system. An ideal alternative to traditional clay or concrete tile that can weigh up to of 800 lbs per square, products made of steel weigh between 125 to 150 lbs per square and place less stress on the structure of the home. Strong and durable, steel is a walkable material; there is no fear of breaking tiles.

DECRA Tile when installed on a batten system increases over the deck airflow. A recent test by Oak Ridge National Labs compares products installed direct to the deck, like asphalt shingles, and those installed on a batten system. The test concluded the over the deck venting system, created by the battens, was key in keeping heated air out of the conditioned space; in fact, it was just as important as increasing solar reflectivity of the roof color.

In addition to being energy efficient, DECRA Tile has upwards of 25% post-consumer recycled steel, a long life cycle and a low lifetime maintenance factor. DECRA Tile is easy to use with solar panel systems as demonstrated on the Future House USA project home. Rain catchment systems can also be easily and safely installed with a DECRA roof. The water run-off from the DECRA roofing panels meets World Health Organization (WHO) standards.

DECRA Roofing Systems have been providing ageless beauty, superior performance and lasting durability for 50 years. DECRA profiles are backed by a 50-year limited warranty, a 120 mph wind warranty, are Class 4 impact resistant, and steel is a non-combustible, Class A rated material.
