The event’s history began in 1982. According to the Web site (www.hh100.org), Wichita Falls, Texas, was planning its Centennial Celebration and a rocking-chair marathon was proposed to begin the festivities. Roby Christie of the Wichita Falls Bicycle Club suggested that a better kickoff would be a bicycle ride — 100 miles in 100-degree weather to celebrate 100 years. Sanctioned by the League of American Wheelman, the Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred, is annually the largest sanctioned century ride in the Untied States.
