GAF announced plans to expand its Quakertown, Pa., strip shingle manufacturing facility.

WAYNE, N.J.-GAF Materials Corp. has announced plans to expand its Quakertown, Pa., strip shingle manufacturing facility to produce laminated (architectural) roofing shingles. The expansion plans include a new high speed, state-of-the-art shingle laminator to support continued growth in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic and Canadian markets. The proposed expansion, is expected to be completed in mid 2006 and will not affect strip shingle production.

Bill Collins, president and CEO, said: "As a company committed to helping our channel partners ‘build their businesses and avoid hassles,' this addition is a natural response to the growth of our loyal contractors and distributors." Over the past several years, laminate shingle demand has been particularly strong, reflecting the industry shift from strip shingles to laminates. While this shift to laminates has been good for the industry, it has strained industry capacity and resulted in service shortfalls. This capacity addition in Quakertown will allow GAF to continue to effectively service these key markets.
