Christa M. Harder, Buffalo, N.Y.; Whitney A. Liftig, Fort Myers, Fla.; andKathryn J. Mescher, Mount Vernon, Ill., received Roofing Industry Scholarships from the National Roofing Foundation (NRF), a separate but related educational and research organization of the National Roofing Contractors Association, Rosemont, Ill.
The scholarships, which provide recipients with $1,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study, are awarded to employees, immediate family of employees or immediate family of NRCA-contractor members. Applicants must plan to continue their education in university or vocational programs. Recipients may use the money to support their studies at any accredited postsecondary institution; scholarships are not limited to students planning to enter the roofing industry.
Harder is the daughter of Cynthia Harder, administrative manager for Black Rock Roofing, Buffalo; Liftig is the daughter of Deborah Liftig, president of Currier Roofing Co. Inc., Fort Myers; and Mescher is the daughter of Steven Mescher, vice president of Ray Black & Sons Construction Inc., Mount Vernon.
Recipients were chosen based on academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of education goals and a third-party appraisal. Financial need is not considered.
In addition, NRF renewed nine scholarships this year. The recipients include Ashley N. Auker, Ephrata, Pa., who is attending the University of Delaware, Newark; Colleen E. Erbsen, Salida, Colo., who is attending Colorado State University, Fort Collins; Devin L. Lausch, Akron, Pa., who is attending Penn State University, University Park, Pa.; Abigail E. Lauver, Spring Mills, Pa., who is attending Penn State University; Sarah C. Maxwell, Nashville, Tenn., who is attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Jarod W. Olds, Dallas, who is attending Austin College, Sherman, Texas; Melissa M. Pierce, Eau Claire, Wis., who is attending the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis; Jessica L. Watson, South China, Maine, who is attending the University of Maine, Orono; and Nicholas P. Yoder, Erie, Mich., who is attending the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
