CARE, The Center for the Advancement of Roofing Excellence, Wayne, N.J., is now certified to train contractors for the new CERTA-CNA Torch Safety Training program. The training is available in both English and Spanish.

Originally developed by the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association, the CERTA (Certified Roofing Torch Applicator) program was recently modified by the NRCA and CNA Insurance Co. to place a greater emphasis on safety rather than on installation techniques, and to meet new insurance requirements for torching work. CNA Insurance Co. has mandated that all insured torch applicators be CERTA certified.

CARE instructors were trained through the NRCA "Train the Trainer" program to teach the certification program to torch-welded modified bitumen applicators. These sessions promote safe and proper working and application practices, torch welding equipment and its proper use, vapor and liquid propane technology, use and storage, fire prevention and protection.

CARE, The Center For The Advancement of Roofing Excellence Ltd., is a not-for-profit educational institute supported by GAF Materials Corp., U.S. Intec, and Building Materials Corporation of America.
