Brava Roof Tile launched its new Cool Roof Colors, which meet the demands of Title 24 & Title 31 requirements.

The industry term for “cool roof” results from the development of roofing products that substantially reduce heat absorption. These products have high solar reflectance and thermal emittance, reducing heat transfer and indoor temperatures. Cool roofs lower building temperatures, offering energy savings by reducing the need for air conditioning, leading to a decreased strain on power grids, especially during peak usage times in hot climates.

Brava Roof Tile’s new cool roof product offering includes the brand’s CRRC-compliant Cedar Shake tile in lake forest, weathered, western, and cool white. Slate profiles are available in cool Arendale, cool Atlantic, cool light Arendale, cool weathered, and cool white. Spanish Barrel tiles are available in cool terra cotta and cool French clay. All of which can be used to meet Cool Roof Title 24 and Title 31 specifications.

“Brava is proud to lead the way in providing eco-friendly roofing solutions that do not compromise the aesthetic appeal our customers love,” says Adam Brantman, president of Brava Roof Tile. “This launch underscores our commitment to providing products that reduce energy consumption, minimize environmental impact, and contribute to healthier, more energy-efficient communities.”

Title 24 is part of California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards, which aims at reducing energy consumption, and Title 31, part of these standards, applies to more specialized energy consumption measures that build upon the latter. These regulations are crucial in areas with hot climates, where cool roofs can significantly reduce cooling loads and energy usage.

Title 24 lays out the following roofing requirements:

  • Thermal emittance – The ability of a roof shingle to release any heat that it has absorbed.
  • Three-Year Aged Reflectance – A measurement of a roof tile’s ability to reflect heat away from itself after 3 years.
  • Solar Reflective Index (SRI) – The ability of a roof shingle to reflect solar heat as measured by a small rise in temperature.
