National Women in Roofing [NWiR] has introduced the groundbreaking REAL Roofing program — a comprehensive initiative focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion [DEI] within the roofing industry. NWiR spearheaded the creation of REAL Roofing in response to the pressing need for transformative education. The program has not only earned the industry's acclaim but also secured approval for continuing education credits.

With a commitment to inclusivity, the program's inception was motivated by the desire to empower small and medium-sized contractors, ensuring that DEI education remains accessible to all. According to a release, NWiR says it was envisioned that the program would "offer high value at a low cost while gathering insights from diverse perspectives across the roofing sector."

"REAL Roofing embodies the spirit of innovation and progress that defines the roofing community," says Mandy McIntyre, program manager at REAL Roofing. "We are proud to offer this program, marking a significant step towards fostering authentic change within our industry."

REAL Roofing's innovative design includes a wide range of learning methods, including approximately 15-minute micro-lessons delivered via text and self-paced video lessons that cater to individual schedules. Participants receive a detailed workbook containing lesson outlines and key term glossaries, enriching their learning experience with optional live Zoom meetings for peer interaction.

Notably, REAL Roofing's accreditation for continuing education credits underscores its significance as an educational milestone within the industry.

"This is more than a program; it's a commitment to progress. By securing accreditation for continuing education credits, we are reinforcing the importance of DEI education as a transformative force," said McIntyre.

NWiR is an approved and registered provider of continuing education for architects, engineers, and construction professionals through the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for REAL Roofing, a diversity, equity, and inclusion program.
