VIDEO: Western States Roofers Address Education, Workforce

The Western States Roofing Contractors Association will take its educational sessions on the road, and will continue to address workforce and technical issues, says incoming president Mike Wakerling.

Mike Wakerling is looking forward to a big year ahead for the Western Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA). The incoming president has been an active member of the executive board for years, and his love for the association goes back decades, to his first Western Roofing Expo.

“I remember going with my dad and it was quite eye opening because we were a smaller company then, and to go there and see all the education and products was really exciting,” recalled Wakerling, who followed his father’s footsteps and is now president of General Roofing Co. in Oakland, Calif.

In this brief video with RC, Wakerling said he’s looking forward to this year’s expo, Sept. 23-25 at the Paris Las Vegas, and setting goals for the association in 2024. Among them is taking some of the event’s stellar education seminars on the road to cities across the West.

“We’re rolling out what we’re calling the Road Shows,” he explained. “They’re going to be educational seminars we’re putting on in different cities that cover business, legal, safety, anything that will educate our members more to make their business better.”
